Item Title:Authorization for Staff to Publish Notice and Set a Public Hearing for the Public Private Partnership for Courtney Isles way Extension to serve the new Road & Bridge Facility

Background:

As part of the agreement for the new Road & Bridge Facility to be located in the Tradeplex, the Developer was required to bid the County’s portion of the Courtney Isles Way Extension.  The Developer has bid this portion and the bid received is $245,000.  A copy of the estimate is attached. 

Engineering Department staff prepared an opinion of Probable Cost should Nassau County decide to construct this segment itself.  The opinion of Probable cost is $376,200( rounded) Based on previous bids received by Nassau County, we have noticed that the smaller the construction job, the higher the unit prices tend to be.  This observation is reflected in the Probable Cost prepared by the Engineering Department.  There are certain economies of scale that would be realized by having the entire road constructed at one time.  

County staff will do the Construction Inspection on this roadway.   

Request:

Authorize staff to Publish Notice and Set a Public Hearing for the Public Private Partnership for Courtney Isles Way Extension to serve the new Road & Bridge Facility.

Roadway will be constructed using a Public Private Partnership saving the County funds.

Action Requested and Recommendation: Staff recommends that the Board authorize staff to Publish Notice and set the Public hearing for the public Private Partnership for Courtney Isles Way Extension to serve the new Road & Bridge Facility. The Public Hearing will be March 27, 2017.
