Background:
The Sheriff's Office is requesting to use $6,000 from the Crime Prevention Trust Fund to be donated to Yulee High School, Hilliard Middle-High School, and West Nassau High School ($2,000 each) for Grad Bash 2017. Per Florida Statute, Section 775.083, the Sheriff must expend monies from the Crime Prevention Trust Fund for crime prevention programs in the County. Grad Bash is a special drug and alcohol free event chaperoned by school staff. The message of the evening is that young people can have fun without drugs or alcohol. Students attending will also be required to attend a drug and alcohol abuse awareness class conducted by their School Resource Officer. Each student will sign a something pledging to remain drug and alcohol free, thus reducing these types of crimes in the County.
