Background:

Resolution No. 2008-168 states that County facilities may be rented, subject to availability, by persons or organizations on weekends, however no one person or organization may utilize a County facility on more than one weekend per month (copy attached).

 

Freedom Place Ministries has requested to use the Callahan County Building on Sundays while they attempt to raise funds to build a facility. Though they are non-profit organization and are exempt from paying the rental fees, they have offered to make a regular contribution to cover the costs for the custodian fees, electricity, etc. The custodian is earning $50 per rental and the electric averages $300 per month for the entire building, including the portion used by the Property Appraiser's Office. Facilities Maintenance confirmed with the custodian that historically, this facility has only been rented on Sundays about 5 times per year.

 

As a reminder, another church called the Unity Isle of Light made a similar request in 2015 and again in 2016 for use of the American Beach Community Center every Sunday. Both times, their request was approved for a twelve (12) month period and they were directed to pay $50 per rental to cover the cost for the custodian.
