On September 2nd, 2022, Mr. Zach Brecht, on behalf of the Wildlight Property Owners Association, sent a request to the Board of County Commissioners to conduct an evaluation of Wildlight Avenue and Curiosity Avenue within the Wildlight community for golf cart traffic. Engineering Services Staff was tasked with providing a recommendation for golf cart use for these two County roadways. Engineering Services Staff conducted a site visit to determine the condition of the County maintained paved road, evaluated the speed limit, and analyzed other relevant factors. The Engineering Services Department, as required by the Nassau County Code, has determined that Wildlight Avenue and Curiosity Avenue are safe for use of golf carts under the limitations as described in Section 18-10 of the Nassau County Code. This recommendation begins from and includes the intersection of Wildlight Ave and Homegrown Way, proceeding North on Wildlight Avenue. Additionally, beginning from and including the intersection of Wildlight Ave and Curiosity Avenue, proceeding East on Curiosity Avenue, concluding prior to the roundabout with Crosstown Avenue. A map showing the roadways as described is included.
Low-speed vehicles (LSV’s) are defined by F.S. 320.01, and F.S. 316.2122 allows LSV’s on all roadways where the posted speed limit is 35 MPH or less, contingent on safety equipment (headlamps, brake lights, turn signals, seat belts, et cetera). Currently, residents in Wildlight can register their golf carts at the DMV as a certified LSV, allowing them to use all the roadways within Wildlight.
This recommendation of golf cart roadway approval would allow golf carts, that do not meet the requirements of a LSV designation, to operate on these portions of County roadways once inspected and permitted under Nassau County Ordinance 2008-17.
