BOCC AGENDA ITEM

Item Title:2022 Yulee Holiday Parade
Date:11/28/2022
Department:County Manager's Office
Background:

The 2022 Yulee Holiday Parade has been scheduled for Saturday, December 17, 2022.  The Yulee Holiday Festival Committee is a group of volunteers and they do not have the funds to purchase the $1 million liability insurance as required in accordance with the County's festival ordinance.  For the last several years, the Board of County Commissioners has sponsored the event.  Should the Board agree to sponsor the event, all parade participants will required to sign a hold harmless agreement.  This event will also require a Temporary Closure of State Road for SR200.

A Special Event Application has been submitted for approval by the County Manager. However, the State requires a Temporary Closing of State Road permit which is signed by the Sheriff and Chairman of the Board. The Sheriff's Office has already approved the form and will work with the event organizer to ensure a safe event. The organizer must also submit a letter to the Florida Department of Transportation expressing the Board's support for the event.

Request:
Consider the following: 1) Approve sponsoring the 2022 Yulee Holiday Parade; 2) Authorize the Chairman to sign the Temporary Closing of State Road Permit and Letter of Support as required by the Florida Department of Transportation.
Financial/Economic Impact to Future Years Budgeting Process or Effect on Citizens:
There is no financial impact on the County, however community events improve quality of life for the residents.
