The Arts Council was created by the City of Fernandina Beach via Resolution No. 2007-102, adopted on July 5, 2007. The Council's purpose was to provide a committee/group to represent the arts community and to serve as a liaison between the City Council and arts community.
In 2010, the City expressed an interest in expanding their efforts to the west side of the County and subsequently adopted Resolution No. 2010-140 providing for two members to be recommended by the Board of County Commissioners. As a result, the Board of County Commissioners approved Resolution No. 2010-161 in support of the City's designation of the Fernandina Beach Arts Council as the County-wide Arts Council. The BOCC later adopted Resolution No. 2011-123 supporting the City's decision to rename the Arts Council to Arts & Culture Nassau.
The County has two representatives on Arts & Culture Nassau: Richard Restiano and Linda Conley, both of which reside outside of the City limits. Ms. Conley has recently submitted her resignation effectively immediately and as such, a new representative will be needed. There are currently no resumes on file for individuals wishing to serve on this Committee so staff is seeking permission to advertise for individuals wishing to serve. Ms. Conley's appointment was in effect through December 2023 so the County needs to find someone to finish the remainder of her two-year term.
The Council meets on the fist Monday of every month at 12:00 p.m. at City Hall (204 Ash Street) |
