Item Title:Letter of Authorization for First Coast Crime Stoppers, Inc.

Background:

First Coast Crime Stoppers, Inc., in a non-profit, civilian volunteer program formed in 2002 to better serve citizens on the First Coast in the fight against crime. Florida Statutes, Chapter 16.555 allows the organization to apply to the Attorney General for grant funds to administer the program, however a Letter of Authorization is needed from the local governing body. Funds collected are deposited into the "Crime Stoppers Trust Fund" and are used for crime prevention programs, including paying rewards for tips leading to arrests.

 

Sheriff Bill Leeper has reviewed the request from First Coast Crime Stoppers and has no objection.

Request:
Authorize the Chairman to sign a letter authorizing First Coast Crime Stoppers, Inc., to act as an agent and apply to the Attorney General for grant funds for Nassau County.
Financial/Economic Impact to Future Years Budgeting Process or Effect on Citizens:
Allowing First Coast Crime Stoppers to solicit grant funds is beneficial to the County as any funds collected are deposited into the County's First Coast Crime Stoppers account and used locally to fund crime prevention programs and initiatives.
Action Requested and Recommendation:
Authorize the Chairman to sign a letter authorizing First Coast Crime Stoppers, Inc., to act as an agent and apply to the Attorney General for grant funds for Nassau County.
