Item Title:Land Swap Agreement with the School Board of Nassau County

Background:

The Board of  County Commissioners and the Nassau County School Board held joint meetings in January and June of 2021.  The County expressed the need for Right of Way acquisition of approximately eight (8) acres needed to complete the William Burgess Blvd. Extension project.  The eight acres is owned by the School District and is located south of Yulee High School and Yulee Middle School.

 

The School Board has expressed the need for land in District 2 within the Nassauville area to build a new school to serve additional students.  The County owns a 12.248 acre parcel near the Hatton Road/Amelia Concourse area within Nassauville that has been identified as a strategically placed school site. 

 

On January 10, 2022, the Board of County Commissioners authorized staff to move forward with the proposed "land swap" of eight acres owned by the School Board near the Yulee Middle/High Schools and County owned property of 12.248 acres in the Nassauville area near Amelia Concourse.  On March 2, 2023, the School Board of Nassau County approved and executed a Land Swap Agreement for the William Burgess Extension and Nassauville locations.

Request:
Approve and authorize the Chairman to sign the Land Swap Agreement, and any associated documents, with the School Board of Nassau County for the William Burgess Extension and Nassauville School site land swap.
Financial/Economic Impact to Future Years Budgeting Process or Effect on Citizens:
The proposed land swap is beneficial to the citizens of Nassau County, and allows for the future site of a new school and an alternative transportation route to SR 200.
Action Requested and Recommendation:
Approve and authorize the Chairman to sign the Land Swap Agreement, and any associated documents, with the School Board of Nassau County for the William Burgess Extension and Nassauville School site land swap.
