BOCC AGENDA ITEM

Item Title:2023 Yulee Holiday Parade
Date:11/27/2023
Department:County Manager's Office
Background:

The Yulee Holiday Parade has been scheduled for Saturday, December 9, 2023. This event is coordinated by the Yulee Holiday Committee which consists of a small group of members. In an effort to keep this event for the Yulee community, the Board of County Commissioners have sponsored the event for many years including waiving the special event permit fee and providing insurance, if needed.  At this time, the Yulee Holiday Committee is requesting the Board to sponsor the 2023 Yulee Holiday Parade, waive the associated permit fee, and provide insurance if deemed necessary.

Additionally, the parade will affect a portion of US Highway 17 between Pages Dairy Road and Hamilton Street. This will require a Temporary Closing of State Road Permit. The form has already been approved by Sheriff Leeper and needs approval from the Board of County Commissioners.

Request:
Consider the following: 1) sponsor the 2023 Yulee Holiday Parade and waive associated special event permit fee; and 2) authorize the Chairman to sign the Temporary Closing of State Road form as required by the Florida Department of Transportation for temporary closure of US 17 from Pages Dairy Road to Hamilton Street.
Financial/Economic Impact to Future Years Budgeting Process or Effect on Citizens:
While the parade does not have any financial impact, citizen based community events are critical to creating vibrant and engaged communities and often create a sense of community and increased quality of life.
Action Requested and Recommendation:
Consider the following: 1) sponsor the 2023 Yulee Holiday Parade and waive associated special event permit fee; and 2) authorize the Chairman to sign the Temporary Closing of State Road form as required by the Florida Department of Transportation for temporary closure of US 17 from Pages Dairy Road to Hamilton Street.
Is this action consistent with the Nassau County Comprehensive Land Use Plan?
