The Gullah Geechee Cultural Community Trust is applying for the Abandoned African American Cemeteries Grant through the State of Florida, Division of Historic Resources, for their project "Restoring Crandall Cemetery: Life Culture & Community. This initiative consists of repairing, restoring and maintaining this historic cemetery that has been inactive since the 1960s.
The cemetery (also known as Henderson Cemetery), is located on property currently owned by Rayonier. Rayonier submitted a letter of concurrence on November 21, 2023, for the GGCCT's grant application (copy attached). At this time, the GGCCT is seeking a letter of support from the Board of County Commissioners to be included in their grant application. Attached is a resolution expressing support for their application, as well as a letter of support to be signed by the Chairman. |
