Item Title:Re-Establishment of the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee

Background:

At the March 27, 2017 meeting, the Board expressed a desire to reestablish the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee. According to Florida Statute Section 420.9076 (attached), the committee must contain at least 8 but not more than 11 committee members and must specify their terms. The committee must consist of 1 representative from at least 6 of the categories below:

 

1) A citizen who is actively engaged in the residential home building industry in connection with affordable housing

2) A citizen who is actively engaged in the banking or mortgage banking industry in connection with affordable housing

3) A citizen who is a representative of those areas of labor actively engaged in home building in connection with affordable housing

4) A citizen who is actively engaged as an advocate for low-income persons in connection with affordable housing

5) A citizen who is actively engaged as a for-profit provider of affordable housing

6) A citizen who is actively engaged as a not-for-profit provider of affordable housing

7) A citizen who is actively engaged as a real estate professional in connection with affordable housing

8) A citizen who actively serves on the local planning agency pursuant to F.S. 163.3174. If the local planning agency is comprised of the governing board of the county or municipality, the governing board may appoint a designee who is knowledgeable in the planning process.

9) A citizen who resides within the jurisdiction of the local governing body making the appointments

10) A citizen who represents employers within the jurisdiction

11) A citizen who represents essential services personnel, as defined in the local housing assistance plan

 

In 2008, the Board adopted Ordinance No. 2008-06 establishing 11 members with two year terms and outlining the criteria for each appointment.

 

Request:

Consider the following: 1) set public hearing date for Monday, May 8, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. to amend Ordinance No. 2008-06 which outlines criteria for individuals serving on the Affordable Housing Committee; and 2) authorize staff to solicit resumes from individuals interested in being appointed.
