On March 28, 2016, the Board approved Resolution No. 2016-41 authorizing creation of a Working Committee for the purpose of developing a Transit Strategy for Nassau County. The Committee was directed to assess the needs for public transportation services and routes; develop options to institute a phased-in approach to meet ridership demands; provide costs of implementation; recommend a marketing plan; and recommend a community outreach program. A copy of that Resolution is attached for informational purposes.
A subcommittee was subsequently created by the Transit Committee and was tasked with four priorities: 1) establish priorities, projects and estimated costs for improving transportation in Nassau County; 2) bring vision and goals from the 2015 Transit Study conducted by ETM, Inc. to a local level; 3) incorporate the aspects of regional transit; and 4) recommend action steps that will make the priorities happen.
The Subcommitee presented their findings and recommendations to the Transit Committee at their last meeting of March 21, 2017 (draft minutes attached). The Transit Committee is ready to present this information to the Board of County Commissioners.
