BOCC AGENDA ITEM

Item Title:2017 Ride to Cure Diabetes
Date:7/24/2017
Department:County Manager's Office
Background:

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is organizing the 2017 Ride to Cure Diabetes in Nassau County on Saturday, October 7, 2017. The event will consist of approximately 700 cyclists participating in a variety of skill level riding routes varying between 12 and 100 miles. They are asking permission to utilize the Dee Dee Bartel/North End Boat Ramp for their first rest stop. They have verified that the public will be able to access the site at all times.  Facilities Maintenance has reviewed their request and had no concerns.

If approved, JDRF will submit a Hold Harmless Agreement and Certificate of Liability Insurance naming the County as additionally insured, as well as a contract pursuant to the terms of the insurance policy. All documents will be reviewed by the County Attorney and Risk Management prior to the event. Lastly, JDRF will obtain written verification from Nassau County Fire/Rescue and the Nassau County Sheriff's Office that they will provide the necessary support to ensure a safe and organized event.

Note: the request from JDRF indicates that a proposed route is attached, however due to the construction on SR200/A1A, the Sheriff's Office is requesting that they modify their route so it is not being provided at this time. If the new route requires a road closure, the FDOT Road Closure and associated route will be brought back to the Board on a future date.
