Tracy Bazar, Director of Property Taxes for Nassau County Tax Collector's Office, has provided the Board of County Commissioners the list of "2016 County Held Tax Certificates (2015 Taxes) less than $5,000 value." The County may apply but is not required. The Department of Planning and Economic Opportunity recommends the County to apply for two tax deeds from the 2016 tax certificates due to their proximity to school and municipal buildings in Hilliard: Parcel numbers 08-3N-24-2380-0140-0110 and 08-3N-24-2380-0199-0140.
If the County applies for a tax deed, at an estimated $1,000 cost per property, the County may bid on the property at auction or is eligible to obtain the property immediately after the tax sale if no one else bids. Payment for the tax deed application is due to the Tax Collector's Office no later than 5/22/18.
If the County does not bid, nor does any other person, the property is placed on the "public lands for resale" list. At the end of 3 years, the property escheats to the County. Payment for the tax deed application is due to the Tax Collector's Office no later than 5/22/18.
