Item Title:2018 Endless Summer Watermelon Ride
Date:6/25/2018
Department:County Manager's Office
Background:

The North Florida Bicycle Club is a non-profit organization with over 1,000 members. Annually, they host the Endless Summer Watermelon Ride in Nassau County. This year's event will take place on Sunday, September 9, 2018 with an expected 700+ participants. The event is broken into 5 categories: 20 miles, 32 miles, 54 miles, 77 miles, and 10 miles and will expand throughout Amelia Island, south into Duval County, beginning and ending at the Atlantic Recreation Center in Fernandina Beach. Event organizer, Mike Pikula, is working with the Nassau County Sheriff's Office and Fernandina Beach Police Department to coordinate routes and rest stops. There are no plans for road closures, therefore no closure permits are needed.

Mr. Pikula has requested to utilize a portion of Peters Point and one pavilion as a rest stop on Sunday, September 10th. He understands that pavilions cannot be reserved and are on a first come, first served basis. He is also requesting to place up to two portables and additional trash bins at Peters Point beginning Friday, September 7th through Monday, September 10th. They understand that any trash generated by the event must be removed from the premises immediately following the event and have verified that their activity will not prevent any residents from being able to access the beach and/or park.

If approved, the Club will submit a Hold Harmless Agreement and Certificate of Liability Insurance naming the County as additionally insured. All documents will be reviewed by Risk Management for review prior to the event. Lastly, the Club will obtain written verification from Nassau County Fire Rescue and the Nassau County Sheriff's Office that they will provide the support necessary to ensure a safe and organized event.

Request:
Consider request from the North Florida Bicycle Club to utilize a portion of Peters Point as a rest stop on Sunday, September 9, 2018, for the annual Endless Summer Watermelon Ride, contingent upon receipt of a Hold Harmless Agreement and Certificate of Liability Insurance; and authorize placement of up to two (2) portables and several trash receptacles from Friday, 7th through Monday, September 10th.
