Background:

The Board of County Commissioners appointed an Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) consistent with Florida Statutes 420.9076; and since 2017 the AHAC has been working on a variety of strategies to ensure a diverse and affordable housing stock in Nassau County as the community grows.

 

 

The AHAC identified the need for baseline data on the County’s housing issues in order to evaluate and recommend housing policies to ensure a diverse and affordable housing stock; and in 2018 Nassau County partnered with the City of Fernandina Beach on a housing assessment conducted by the University of Florida’s Shimberg Center for Housing Studies.

 

 

Completed in Fall 2018, the Nassau County Housing Affordability Assessment identified eleven key findings related to housing affordability in Nassau County, and four key areas for local affordable housing strategies: 1) diverse housing stock, 2) affordable rental housing, 3) affordable homeownership, and 4) jobs-housing-transportation link.

 

 

On December 19, 2018, the AHAC recommended the Housing Affordability Assessment be forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners for consideration and acceptance. An acceptance of the Housing Affordability Assessment will enable the County to utilize the findings in evaluating and setting housing policies in Nassau County to ensure a diverse and affordable housing stock.

Approve a Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners of Nassau County, Florida, accepting the findings of the Nassau County Housing Affordability Assessment conducted by the University of Florida Shimberg Center for Housing Studies.
