BOCC AGENDA ITEM

Item Title:Personnel Policy & Procedure Update
Date:2/25/2019
Department:Human Resources
Background:

On June 1, 2018, Policy 4.03 - Paid Time Off (PTO) of Nassau County's Policies and Procedures had several amendments made to it, to include changing the time frame for which a new hire could use their accrued leave from ninety (90) days to six (6) months in an effort to have it match the new 6 month introductory period.  Since that time it has been noted that this length of time creates a hardship for new hires forcing them to use leave without pay should they be sick during this period of time.  As such, in an effort to help lessen this burden for new hires, we are requesting an amendment to the time frame from six (6) months to three (3) months for use of PTO time after an employee's initial employment .

In addition, Human Resources is requesting a revision to procedural language regarding the annual payout of PTO leave.  Currently, the language provides that employees can be paid for all leave accrued over the ninety (90) day maximum at fifty percent (50%) of their current rate of pay.  In an effort to simplify the process in our payroll system, we are asking to instead payout fifty percent (50%) of the accrued leave over the 90 days at the employees current rate of pay.
