The Family Nurturing Center provides a nurturing environment for Nassau County families impacted by divorce, custody battles, and domestic violence, by keeping children safe during these challenging times and helping parents foster positive relationships with their children. The Center in Yulee has provided safe visitation and exchange services to our community while keeping victims safe and preventing new crimes over the past year. During 2018, the Nassau County Center served numerous families involving children. We would like to continue the support for its operation.
The services provided by the Family Nurturing Center have the support of the 4th Judicial Circuit, as they are a strong proponent and utilizes their services in cases that warrant children’s protection. In addition to averting the costly police response and investigation, their programs also avert the subsequent prosecution and incarceration costs when crimes occur during unsupervised custody exchanges.
Pursuant to Florida State Statute, Section 775.083, the County in consultation with the Sheriff must expend monies from the Crime Prevention Fund for crime prevention programs in the County. As such, Sheriff Leeper is requesting that the County approve the use of $20,000 for the Family Nurturing Center.
