In 2018, the Board of County Commissioners directed PEO staff to begin looking at options around land conservation programs. Since then, PEO has been working with a technical team of advisors from various agencies and organizations, and earlier this year, the BOCC entered into an agreement with the Trust for Public Land to do a feasibility study around potential finance options. At the August 21st meeting, PEO staff did an update on the work done to date regarding a future land conservation program, and presented the Financial Feasibility report from the Trust for Public Land.
In August during an update by PEO staff on a possible land conservation acquisition and management program, the BOCC discussed setting a workshop in early October to continue the discussion. The BOCC selected October 16th for the workshop.
Pegeen Hanrahan with the Trust for Public Land will be present to discuss the next steps moving forward with finance options, including possible referendum language, if the Board is interesting in pursuing that option, and information related to the Trust for Public Land's work in Nassau County around public polling around such a potential referendum. The polling is conducted with private funds through the Trust for Public Land. |
