Following the closure of electronic gaming facilities (internet cafes), several Nassau County residents have requested the Board of County Commissioners to consider doing the same, citing concerns about increase in crime. County Attorney/County Manager, Mike Mullin, has been following this issue around the State and has held several meetings with the Nassau County Sheriff's Office.
At the December 9, 2019 meeting, Mr. Mullin provided an update on the type of criminal activity data that would be needed to draft an Ordinance to address operations of internet cafes. He indicated that the Sheriff's Office was compiling the data needed to justify drafting an Ordinance declaring internet cafes as a nuisance. Attached is an executive summary received from the Sheriff's Office on December 26, 2019.
The Ordinance was still being drafted at the time of this publication but will be available prior to the meeting on Dec. 30th.
