Item Title:Consideration of Posting "No Thru Trucks Over Four Axles" and "Local Deliveries Only"

Background:

On October 14, 2019 Engineering Services recommended that the Board adopt a resolution restricting truck traffic to local deliveries only and posting “No Thru Trucks” on the following roadways:

 

Amelia Island Parkway from SR 200 to South Fletcher

14th Street from Atlantic Avenue to Amelia Island Parkway

Sadler Road from 8th Street to South Fletcher

 

The Board approved this recommendation and adopted Resolution 2019-150.

 

At this time Engineering Services recommends that Resolution 2019-150 be rescinded, and requests the following changes:

 

  • Post “No Thru Trucks Over 4 Axles" and "Local Deliveries Only" on Amelia Island Parkway from SR 200 to South Fletcher and on 14th Street from Atlantic Avenue to Amelia Island Parkway
  • Remove the “No Thru Trucks” signs entirely on Sadler Road from 8th Street to South Fletcher

 

The County Commission has the authority to regulate or prohibit specific types of vehicles on County roadways under Florida Statute 316. 


Request:
Rescind Resolution No. 2019-150 in its entirely and adopt a new Resolution relating to prohibiting through truck traffic on Amelia Island Parkway from State Road 200 to South Fletcher and on 14th Street from Atlantic Avenue to Amelia Island Parkway; providing for findings by the Board of County Commissioners, providing for placement of "No Thru Trucks Over 4 Axles/Local Deliveries Only" signs.

Action Requested and Recommendation:
  1. Staff recommends that the Board rescind Resolution 2019-150.
  2. Staff recommends that the Board adopt the attached Resolution and authorize the Chairman sign the resolution to post “No Thru Trucks Over 4 Axles/Local Deliveries Only” signs on Amelia Island Parkway from SR 200 to South Fletcher, and on 14th Street from Atlantic Avenue to Amelia Island Parkway; and entirely remove previously posted “No Thru Trucks” signs on Sadler Road from 8th Street to South Fletcher.
