Item Title:Consideration to Authorize the Chairman Sign a Letter of Support for US Bicycle Route 1 Through Nassau County
Date:6/22/2020
Department:Engineering Services
Background:

Adventure Cycling Association and FDOT’s Department of Central Office Roadway Design are working on bicycle routes for traveling cyclists along the Florida Atlantic Coast. The proposed US Bicycle Route 1 (USBR 1) within Nassau County is about 25 miles total (from US 301/US 1) then FL 200, then Amelia Island Parkway, Buccaneer Trail and First Coast Highway through Fernandina Beach and onto FL A1A.

This is part of a national effort through the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) to build a US Bicycle Route system that begins in Bar Harbor, Maine and ends in Key West. There is no requirement that USBR 1 meet the guidelines in the AASTHO Guide for Bicycle Facilities and does not impose any constraints or restrictions on the use of a road.
