| | | | | | | | | Background: | The Nassau County Planning and Economic Opportunity Department applied for a National Park Service grant in 2019 to complete a historic structure report for Evans' Rendezvous in American Beach. The grant award is for $28,180 and does not require a match from the County.
In 2004, the County acquired the Evans' Rendezvous property through a partnership with the Trust for Public Land and the State of Florida. In 2018, County staff and several members of the American Beach community formed the Evans' Rendezvous Task Force.
The Task Force determined that the next best step was to proceed with architectural and engineering construction documents. These documents would be accompanied by a proposed phasing schedule of improvements and associated costs. In 2019, the County applied for a National Trust for Historic Preservation grant for this project, but was not successful. In the meantime, it was recognized and suggested by our local National Park Service partners, who own the Nana Dune property in the vicinity of the Evans Rendezvous, that another important first step is having a historic structure report, which will better inform development of architecture and engineering documents, completed for the property.
The County applied for the National Trust for Historic Preservation grant again in 2020 for the architecture and engineering construction documents.
