Background:
The Florida Legislature amended Sections 316.008 and 316.20655, Florida Statutes which provides for local governments to regulate electric bicycles on sidewalks and to prohibit the operation of electric bicycles on multi-use paths and trail networks. The Friends of Amelia Island Trail, Inc. have petitioned the Board of County Commissioners to address electric bicycles on sidewalks and trails and indicated that the utilization of electric bicycles on sidewalks and trails create safety problems for users of the sidewalks and trails.
