| | | | | | | | | Background: | The Health Care Responsibility Act (HCRA) places the financial responsibility for emergency services atout-of-county hospitals on the patient's county of residents. Generally, these funds pay for hospital services only.
The County Medically Indigent Program (CMIP) created by the BOCC in the 1980's is a companion to HCRA which provides early intervention with medical specialists to reduce the incident of emergency room admissions and provides assistance to clients who otherwise cannot afford maintenance medication. Reimbursement for sponsored services is at the Medicaid rate.
In Fiscal Year 2007-2008, the BOCC requested that the Health Department fund the CMIP from operating revenues, rather than as a separate line item in the BOCC Budget.
