Item Title:Recommendation of Awards/Execution of Asphalt Services Bid No. NC20-028

Background:

In June 2020, the County Manager authorized requesting bids for Asphalt Services. On Wednesday, January 12, 2021, four (4) bids were received (Tab A) in response to the Invitation to Bid for Asphalt Services.  Upon evaluation of the bids received, Preferred Materials  Inc. was the lowest bid received.  Staff recommends Preferred Materials Inc. be awarded the Asphalt Services Bid, Contract No. CM2977, Tab B.

Request:
Approve and authorize the Chairman to sign the following: Contract CM2977 (Tab B) and Requisition CT35-21 (Tab C) for Asphalt Services Bid No. NC20-028, to Preferred Materials, Inc. in the amount of $872,834.00. 
Financial/Economic Impact to Future Years Budgeting Process or Effect on Citizens:

Without an expedited Asphalt Services contract, Nassau County runs the risk of this year’s budget being negatively impacted should we be forced to pay higher prices above those established in this agreement. Without a contract, Asphalt Services vendors could charge an increased rate without guidelines.

 

Possibly more important, this contract guarantees services on an established schedule. Without this contract Nassau County would have no guarantee of services.


Action Requested and Recommendation:
Approve and authorize the Chairman to sign the following: Contract CM2977 (Tab B) and Requisition CT35-21 (Tab C) for Asphalt Services Bid No. NC20-028, to Preferred Materials, Inc. in the amount of $872,834.00.
