Item Title:Memorial Bench Program Adoption

Background:

The Parks and Recreation Department has been contacted by several citizens wishing to place memorial benches in various park locations within Nassau County. After review of other agencies' programs, a policy was drafted including best practices and the needs of our community. 

The Memorial Bench Program is to offer citizens a way to remember loved ones and/or honor individuals or groups in a visible, lasting way that also provides Nassau County residents and visitors the comfort and convenience of benches in our park areas.

 

Adoption of the Memorial Bench Program would allow benches to be available in the following parks:

  • Bryceville Ball Park
  • Callahan Ball Park
  • Goffinsville Park
  • Hilliard Ball Park
  • Peter's Point
  • Wilson Neck Boat Ramp
  • Yulee Sports Complex
Request:
Consider approval of the Nassau County Memorial Bench Program.
Financial/Economic Impact to Future Years Budgeting Process or Effect on Citizens:
This program will allow for new benches to be placed throughout the parks for years to come that honor those in our community, all while providing a uniform look. The cost to the citizen will cover the cost of the bench, an ADA pad and maintenance on the bench for up to 10 years. After that 10 year period, citizens would be responsible for any replacement to the bench.
