Item Title:Florida Association of Counties Board of Directors Vacancy

Background:

The Florida Association of Counties work to help Florida’s counties effectively serve and represent their communities through Advocacy, Collaboration, and Education.

For more than 85 years, the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) has represented the diverse interests of Florida’s counties, emphasizing the importance of protecting home rule – the concept that communities and their local leaders should make the decisions that impact their community.

 

The County Manager's Office received notification from the Florida Association of Counties of a Board of Directors for District 4 vacancy due to elections held during the 2022 FAC Annual Business meeting held on July 1, 2022.  District 4 represents Duval and Nassau Counties.  The Florida Association of Counties will hold a Zoom meeting on August 4, 2022 to identify a Director to represent District 4 and serve the two year term ending in June 2024.

 

While in attendance at the FAC Annual Conference June 2022, Commissioner John Martin has indicated his interest in being a nominee during the August 4, 2022 FAC meeting.

Request:
Consider nominating Commissioner John Martin to represent District 4 (Nassau and Duval Counties) on the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) District Board of Directors.  (FAC will hold a caucus meeting on August 4, 2022 to identify a District 4 Director.)
Financial/Economic Impact to Future Years Budgeting Process or Effect on Citizens:
Having local representation on the FAC Board of Directors which represents all Florida Counties works to bring awareness and a voice to Nassau County and its concerns/needs.
Action Requested and Recommendation:
