The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners have contracted annually with the State of Florida Department of Health for the operation of the Nassau County Health Department.  If approved, this contract will become effective October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023.

Pursuant to Chapter 154, Florida Statutes, the intent of the legislature is to "promote, protect, maintain, and improve the health and safety of all citizens and visitors of this state through a system of coordinated county health department services."  Throughout Florida, County Health Departments were created to satisfy this legislative intent through the "promotion of the public's health, the control and eradication of preventable diseases, and the provision of primary health care for special populations."

With the support of our community partners, the Florida Department of Health in Nassau County can develop and implement health initiatives that benefit our residents and visitors.  Public health professionals are dedicated to improving the health of individuals and communities through the mission of the agency.  Through partnerships, interventions, best practices, community assessments, communication, education and our committed staff we will succeed in making a difference for individuals, families and our community as a whole.
